I gave a small lecture today on to a class of senior computer science undergrads on the importance of looking beyond the coding. It wasn’t my first time doing it (actually it was my second) but I definitely got a bit of an interesting story to tell about this one.

Online branding is rising in importance, probably more important than that fancy business card. It can work for or against you.

Ever felt like you’ve been talked down to by a techie at work? Ever went to your IT department with a problem and get told that it’s something technical and they’ll work on it, and then that’s the end of the story? Or inversely, ever had someone try to explain something technical and come away sure that he or she was not really speaking in English?

Well in the first issue of the techie poser series, we’re going to look at some terms that will help you sound tech-literate. You may still come away thinking that the other person was speaking language from another planet, but at least you’ll still look intelligent (sort of) and you may even have come away with the answers you really need.
